Austin is a vivacious, athletic and brave 12 year old
who brings life, love and laughter to all who are
around him. On June 27, 2007, Austin was diagnosed
with Ewing's Sarcoma on his right pelvis. Ewing's
Sarcoma is a rare form of pediatric bone cancer
typically found in Caucasian children between the ages
of 10-20. It is more commonly diagnosed in boys than
in girls. Ewing's Sarcoma is diagnosed in
approximately 200-400 children each year in the
United States.
Austin is undergoing a year of chemotherapy in which
he is admitted every 2-3 weeks to the hospital between
a 3 day and 6 day treatment. In mid-September,
Austin under went his first 6-week extensive radiation
treatment on his right pelvis. At the end of his year
long chemo treatment, Austin will complete a 2-day
radiation treatment on his lungs.
Austin is a unique and special child! He was chosen,
for whatever reason, to endure this difficult obstacle
that was thrust upon him. Austin is a fighter and he
will persevere.
The foundation was created to help support Austin
and his family through this difficult time.
Co-payments, parking, prescriptions, gasoline and loss
of work are just some of the monetary burdens that can
add up rather quickly.
The Austin Rieniets Foundation is committed to
helping families with childhood cancer and has made
several donations to other families affected by
childhood cancer.
Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers, kindness
and support!
